At the invitation of the Swiss Bankers Association, the Swiss Insurance Association SVV and the Swiss FS-CSC, the most important players in the Swiss financial centre met at the National Museum in Zurich for a deep dive into the next generation of financial market infrastructure. Keynotes by Adrian Perrig (ETH Zurich), Denise Tischhauser (SNB), Cornelius Dorn, Fritz Steinmann (both SIX), Urs Fischer (Health Info Net) and Martin Bosshardt (Anapaya) as well as the panel discussion conveyed to the numerous participants the importance of these new technologies as well as cooperation in the field of cyber security.
The Secure Swiss Finance Network (SSFN) and Scalability, Control and Isolation On Next-Generation Networks (SCION) are elementary prerequisites for a secure and reliable financial centre of tomorrow. The SSFN allows the parties connected to it in the Swiss financial centre to communicate securely with SIX as the financial market infrastructure, and also with each other. It is based on the SCION technology which was developed at the ETH Zurich and puts security, performance and functionality in data exchange on a new level.
As a financial market infrastructure provider, SIX will discontinue the existing FinanceIPNet communication network at the end of September 2024. SIX and the SNB therefore recommend that all those affected with a FinanceIPNet connection make the necessary technical and organisational preparations for the changeover to SSFN at an early stage.
Adrian Perrig, ETH Zurich.
